Overview of SSC CGL EXAMINATION PATTERN :
SSC-CGL exam is made up of three stages: Tier 1, 2 and 3.
Tier I (prelims)

No. of question =100- Negative marking: 0.50 marks
Tier II (mains)
Those who qualify in the Tier-I, have to appear for Tier-II. But unlike the UPSC mains, the SSC tier-II doesn’t have descriptive paper. You just have to face Multi Choice Questions (MCQ).Total Duration Negative marking? Paper I (Maths) 200 marks 2 hrs – 0.50 Paper II (English) 200 marks 2 hrs – 0.25 Total 400 marks - These two papers are compulsory for all candidates.
- But If you’re applying for Statistical Investigator Grade-II, then you’ve to appear for one more paper, that is Paper III for Statistics, worth 200 marks.
- Tier III1.Tier III will be a descriptive type paper of 100 marks2.Exam will be conducted in Pen and Paper mode3.Duration of Paper will be 60 minutes i.e. 1 hour4.There will be questions of Essay Writing (250 Words)/ Precise Writing/ Letter Writing5.This exam will be of qualifying nature but marks are included in the preparation of final merit6.The paper will be bilingual i.e. you can write answer either in Hindi or English Language.This paper is introduced to evaluate the writing skill of candidates. The best strategy for this paper is “Practice”, the more you write, the better you become. Good content and the ability to provide a proper structure to content are needed to write an essay or letter. If you practice, then both these skill can be improved over the time. This paper is introduced to make the selection procedure fair and clear. For this paper, you need to focus on Essay/ letter / application/ precise writing equally.
